Army Wife's Weight Loss Surprise
In 2012 army specialist Larry Shaffer was deployed to Afgahnistan. He recently returned to a surprise of a lifetime; his wife of 5 years, Misty, decided to lose 100 lbs in the year that he was away, going from a size 24 to a size 6.
I’m not a huge fan of the reporter’s constant editorializing, but the story is still incredibly heartwarming. I think it might be even sweeter because these high school sweethearts seem so much in love. PLUS Misty states the Larry never once mentioned her size, so this change really was as much for her as it was for him.
She cut out junk food, and used portion control to attain her impressive 100lb loss. As we all well know, abs are made in the kitchen – weight loss really is about maintaining a healthy diet.

I find it kind of hard to believe that they didn’t skype even once in the time that he was away – but Misty does say that she would only put pictures up on Facebook that were shoulders up. Now that’s dedication – not just the ability to lose 100lbs, but to keep it a secret for a year? I just know I’m not that good of a secret keeper – I would definitely feel the need to brag.
