Australian Brand Uses Athletes, Not Models, In Fashion Show
Australian brand We Are Handsome staged it's fashion show, as part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, with real life athletes instead of models.
They used pole vaulter Amanda Bisk, ballerina Juliet Burnett, known fitness-fanatic Lindy Klim and yoga lover and Australian Instagram star Sjana Earp to show off their swimwear/active wear lines.
It is pretty cool that We Are Handsome is attempting to mix things a up a little bit. But it also feels a little off the mark. I'm glad they are using women who have, in all likelihood, achieved their slender frames through healthy eating and physical training and exercise but they don't really look too different from models you might normally see. I hope this promotes a healthy look over the 'thin at all costs' look you sometimes see at fashion events.
How do you see it? Is this a body positive move or just more of the same, bundled up to look like it isn't?
