Awesome Energy Lifehacks #5: Gobble Protein

December 02, 2014 1 min read

Protein is definitely the TASTIEST nutrient around, and thankfully it's one of the best things to eat if you need energy. Carbs often cause a spike in your energy levels, which in turn results in a crash as your body tries to compensate for your high blood sugar. Fat is harder for your body to process, so eating high-fat meals will often leave you feeling tired. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Source: bretcontreras.com[/caption] With protein, on the other hand, you actually stabilize your blood sugar levels, all the while providing your brain and muscles with the nutrients they need. Protein is needed to produce ATP energy, the only form of energy your muscles can use. Resist the temptation to have a cup of coffee or a sugary snack when you're feeling drowsy, but go snack on a chicken breast, turkey ham, an egg, or a cup of milk. Add some veggies into the mix (for your intestines' sake), and you'll find your energy levels stay consistently high throughout the day. It won't e the surge of energy you get from sugary foods, but there's no crash after either!
