How To Balance Your Health By Balancing Your Fats

Finding a balance between these 2 essential fatty acids could have profound effects on your health! In today’s diets, most are lacking in omega 3’s – which is found in cold water fish (salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel, black cod and bluefish) as well as walnuts and flaxseeds. However, most diets today have an overabundance of omega 6’s which are found in nuts and seeds and the oils derived from them. Refined oils (soy, sunflower, safflower, and corn) are abundant in processed foods, fast foods, snack foods, and are largely used in restaurants when cooking. The body also makes hormones from omega 6 fatty acids.Generally, hormones developed from the omega fatty acids have contrary effects. Those from omega-6 fatty acids tend to increase inflammation, blood clotting, and cell production. On the other hand those from omega-3 fatty acids decrease those roles. Both lineages of hormones must be in balance in order to maintain ideal health. Since many of us now have an imbalance of these fatty acids – too much omega 6 and too little omega 3, it may explain the increase of various diseases such as asthma, coronary heart disease, many forms of cancer, autoimmunity and neurodegenerative diseases, all of which are understood to stem from inflammation in the body. This imbalance may also add to obesity, depression, dyslexia, hyperactivity and even a propensity toward violence. Bringing the fats into appropriate quantity may actually get rid of those maladies.
