Basil Mint Watermelon Slushy
Not only is watermelon tasty, hydrating and refreshing, but it also has many health benefits! These include vitamin B6 properties, as well as vitamins A, C, E and D and lycopene, which is an antioxidant that fights against free radicals in your body. Watermelon also contains niacin, selenium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and helps to enhance your libido!
This is a perfect summer treat, and can be made as a juice as well as a slushy. To summarize, we should all eat more watermelon!
You will need:
- 1/2 a large watermelon or 1 small watermelon
- large handful of basil
- small handful of mint
Optional:
- small handful of parsley
- small handful of cilantro
Step 1: First, we are going to slightly freeze the watermelon. This is going to create that half-frozen, slushy effect. Scoop out the watermelon insides, place it into a bag or a container, and put it in your freezer to freeze for a couple hours:
Step 2: After a couple hours, take your almost-frozen watermelon pieces, and place into your blender. Add the mint and basil on top. You can also add parsley and cilantro if you want, this gives it an extra herby flavor which is just magnificent!
Step 3: Blend the frozen watermelon and herbs together, but don't completely pulverize. You want to retain that slushy ice flavor, as well as keep a couple mint and basil pieces intact in the mix.
Pour into your glass, top with fresh mint leaves (pictured above) or fresh basil leaves (picture below) and drink!
