Beauty Hacks: The Pale Person's Guide to Getting a Tan

Every summer I think I'm going bathe in the sun and somehow my perfectly porcelain skin will turn an enviable shade of bronze. And every summer, I end up looking like a tomato.

Here are 4 beauty hacks to getting a decent summer glow without looking like a garden grown fruit, and without damaging your precious fair skin:

#1 Take It Slow  

You want to build up a good base. Go out in the sun (under the protection of some 'screen, of course) and sunbathe for 10 to 15 minutes a day. After a week, up it by 5 minutes and keep upping it until you reach 30 minutes a day. You should not to lay out for longer than the 30 minute mark.

#2 Hit The Water  

Swimming in water increases your chance of gaining colour because of it's reflective properties. What better excuse to hang by the pool or hit the waves? Remember to apply some waterproof sunblock before getting wet, and reapply consistently.

#3 Know The Prime Times  

Being out before 10 am and after 4 pm lessens your risk of skin damage from the sunshine. You can still catch some rays, but they are much less powerful.

#4 Bronze It Up   To avoid risk of a bad burn, try a self-tanner or bronzer to give you a subtle summer glow. Don't go too dark or it will look unnatural, and remember to exfoliate skin 24 hours before applying tanner for the most even looking results.
