Glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in the body. You can find it in your plasma and within your skeletal muscle. It has many benefits to you including immune system function. There are many factors that also decrease Glutamine levels in the body. These can include depression, stress, surgery, and exercise. That last one can be the most important to us bodyrockers. In fact, as our Glutamine levels decline after a strenuous exercise we are more susceptible to infection and disease. For this reason alone it is important to make sure you are keeping your levels increased either by food intake or supplementation. I will tell you how both can work since some of our mommyrockers and bodyrockers prefer not to supplement. Some dietary sources of Glutamine are: Lean beef, chicken, eggs and dairy products, cabbage, beets, beans, spinach, and parsley Supplements include: Whey protein and some isolate protein blends, and Glutamine tablets, powders or capsules. You can choose to add a tsp to your morning shake of the powder or take 1-3 capsules of 500 mg of Glutamine capsules/tablets per day. In addition, as with all supplements if you suffer from kidney or liver problems please check with your health care professionals before starting a supplement routine.
