Inspirational BodyRocker: Laura
Hi I was wondering what the process was for submitting before and after photos? Mine are still a work in progress but I've come a pretty long way so far at over 135lbs lost so far. I'm a 35 year old mom of 3. Years of poor eating due to working full time, quitting smoking, and having kids packed on the pounds. After I had my last daughter in November 2006 I was sitting at 285lbs and I'm only 5'3". I couldn't sit comfortably on the floor anymore. I couldn't chase my kids around the park. I was afraid to take them to amusement parks for fear of embarrassment because I wouldn't fit on all the rides. I decided I had to make a change. I started slow and just eliminated refined sugar from my diet and started perimeter shopping at the grocery store. I lost 30 lbs fairly quickly and decided to treat myself to a 12 week personal training package and learned how to work out. I hit so many walls and it took a while to learn what my body's limits were but I was motivated. It was all about setting mini goals. There's a sense of empowerment and strength that comes from transforming yourself. But you have to start somewhere. I started by adding one new thing every day. It doesn't have to be big. And eventually it becomes second nature. I'm in the homestretch now and am very excited to get to my end goal. It's less about pounds for me now and more about how I feel and look. I attribute clean eating to improved mental health too. I've experienced a lot of loss in the last 10 years (having lost both my parents, my sister, a son, and getting divorced) and I can say with certainty that the foods I chose to eat and the exercise I was doing unequivocally helped me deal with the emotions that come from that too.
I also wanted to add that I did get breast implants in 2011. Because I lost so much weight, I developed very loose skin on my breasts because they reduced in size significantly. I had cohesive gel implants put in that made my breasts the same size they were in the first pic to get rid of the loose skin. It was a reward that was very well earned in my opinion.
