This is probably one of my favorite smoothies, one that I make often as part of my breakfast, and one that even the kids will enjoy! It is filling enough that it is essentially a meal in itself because it contains proteins, carbs, and healthy fats as well as vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals.
Spinach - Either fresh or frozen, spinach is a powerful green with a high nutritional value and rich in antioxidants. It is a good source of vitamins A, B2, C, and K and also contains minerals magnesium, manganese, folate, iron, calcium, and potassium.
Banana- Other than the fact that bananas are high in potassium, bananas have endless health benefits. Consuming bananas prior to working out can provide energy and sustain blood sugar levels, as well as help protect against muscle cramps.
Berries- Either fresh or frozen, berries are another great addition to our diet. Berries also contain antioxidants, fiber, and have been linked to better brain and heart health.
Ground Flax Seed- Ground Flax is a perfect addition to smoothies and baked goods. Rich in fiber and Omega 3's, which are "good" heart healthy fats.
Nut Butter- Nut butters such as peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter are another source of "good" fats, fiber, protein, and other vitamins and minerals.
Lemon- Adding a squeeze of fresh lemon juice balances out the flavor and also aids digestion, acts as a cleanser, controls high blood pressure, and the list goes on! It also tastes great!
