“Mommy, you have jiggly arms like a grandma!” is what Michelle Kruk heard come from the mouth of her then 8-year-old son while on a shopping trip. Jarred awake by the observation, there was no turning back. Michelle was already a member at a women's only gym but admitted that she really only did cardio and was 'half-hearted' in her machine circuits. She dropped this membership and split the cost of a trainer with a friend. After losing 20 pounds with the trainer, Michelle joined a running group, ran a half marathon and spent more time getting active with her kids.
A family affairMichelle knows that careful planning is what helps her family to succeed. She takes one day a week and spends it preparing healthy meals and snacks for the days ahead. She also gets up very early in the morning to fit in her 5 a.m. weight sessions. Michelle has completely cleaned up her kids' lunches without making them feel left out at school. “I learned how to make healthy Pizza Pops so they wouldn’t feel deprived," she says. And now, they participate in family 5k runs and basically “any activity that doesn’t involve sitting on the couch." Michelle is not only proud of her own transformation, but that of her family. “Having my 12-year-old daughter, Julia, understand that looking skinny does not mean you are healthy is so rewarding,” she says. [bctt tweet="By Getting Her Family Involved, She Lost Weight And Changed Their Lives In The Process"] Now weighing 123 pounds, Michelle participates in fitness competitions, and placed first in her category, her first time out! She can't imagine that any of that would be possible without her family's support, understanding and honesty. “I am so proud of who I have become. And I know that my family and friends are proud of what I have accomplished as well.” No doubt! Placing in a fitness is competition is difficult on its own, but placing in a fitness competition while instilling your loved ones with a passion for a healthy lifestyle is even more difficult!
