Cecil the Lion's Killer, Dr. Walter J Palmer, Will Not Face Charges

Back in July, American dentist Dr. Walter J Palmer coughed up $55,000 on a big game permit in order to kill Cecil the Lion in Africa. The tragic death struck communities far and wide with outrage. Cecil the Lion's killer escapes charges. Palmer was met with death threats and mass protests demanding persecution after it was revealed that he paid such a hefty fee to shoot Cecil by injuring the animal with a bow and arrow and then tracking Cecil (who was wearing a GPS collar for an Oxford research project) for 40 hours before making the final kill. Palmer claimed that he believed the hunt was entirely legal, even though two Zimbabwean men were charged for luring the lion into an area where hunting is permitted. Going back and forth between Palmer and the angered community led him into hiding, having only returned to his practice last month. It seems no charges will come of the killing. Zimbabwean Environmental Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has declared that, in terms of documentation, Palmer followed the rules. This may further anger and sadden those who thought the dentist ought to face criminal punishment for such an unjust killing. But Palmer swears he wouldn't have done the deed had he been made aware of Cecil's importance to the country. He previously told Associated Press, "If I had known this lion had a name and was important to the country or a study obviously I wouldn’t have taken it. Nobody in our hunting party knew before or after the name of this lion." What do you think of Palmer escaping charges? Source: Elite Daily Do you follow us on Instagram?
