A new photo series celebrates the beauty and diversity that makes up The U.S.A. 14 stunning women went completely nude for this shoot, captured by San Francisco photographer Carey Fruth. The series pays tribute to the 1999 film, American Beauty. In the Oscar-winning movie, Kevin Spacey plays a man who lusts after a young friend of his teenage daughter. In his fantasies, the petite blonde is naked in a sea of rose petals, representing his "ideal" woman. Carey wanted to communicate the idea that there is no "ideal" woman, and that all races, sizes and body shapes are idyllic and personify beauty. "Almost every image you see in mainstream media is of one type of woman, thin white women to be specific," Carey tells Huffington Post. "Women who are hungry to see themselves represented in a beautiful way. And why shouldn't they?" For the dreamy photos, each woman laid down in a bed of lilacs and had only their intimate parts covered with the flowers. Some women even put a few flowers in their hair. Every shot captures the unique and inspiring image. Some critics find photo projects like these a step backwards, as they feel women shouldn't have to "strip down" to celebrate genuine beauty. People have called this trend "empowerment through objectification". Do you agree? Share your thoughts on this photo series with us! Would you ever participate in a nude shoot?
