Celebrity Weight Loss For Entertainment

August 08, 2013 1 min read

In news from the never ending celebrity weight loss saga / body shaming for sport and entertainment, gossip rag Life & Style magazine is reporting that Jessica Simpson has lost 25 lbs in 5 weeks, bringing her total reported weight loss over the last 2 years to 1578 lbs. Not to be outdone, OK magazine has Christina Aguilera in a fat loss "Battle" with Britney Spears to see who can win "a decades-long tug of war to the scale" and unfat themselves fastest. I think we have all indulged in at least flipping through the tabloid "Best and Worst Beach Body" issues, but my question for you guys is how other people's weight-loss struggles became fodder for entertainment? Why do we honestly enjoy this stuff? Does it make us feel better? Do we get some kind of satisfaction in knowing that even "perfect" people struggle? What are your thoughts and why is it acceptable to target celebs with this kind of judgement?
