Up Close and Personal
Scarlet Johansson and Kate Winslet, along with several other actors, were recently photographed by award-winning photographer Chuck Close for the new issue of Vanity Fair. What’s AMAZING about this is that they were photographed sans make-up.
The sitters, which also include Julia Roberts, Oprah Winfrey, Kate Winslet and Robert De Niro, agreed to follow five rules:
(1) Arrive alone or with one close friend or associate.
(2) Be available for three hours.
(3) Be responsible for your own look—no professional styling or hair or makeup.
(4) Be content with coffee and deli sandwiches or salads—nothing fancy will be served.
(5) Get to the studio under your own steam.
I love, love, LOVE when you see stuff like this. If you’ve seen any of the models without make-up posts, then you know they can sometimes look terrifying, but these ladies are gorgeous!
I’m a sucker for those Dove Real Beauty videos (I knoooow they're owned by Unilever the same people who own Axe, whatever, don't judge me), and this reminds me of those, but it’s even more inspiring because it’s people who we only see when they are gussied up, people we strive to be like without ever seeing what they actually look like. I wish more actors would dare to bare all, and I’m impressed that Vanity Fair is going with this kind of shoot.
The best part about this is that the whole experience was glamour free: no stylists, no entourage, where what you want, grab a sandwich for lunch. Chuck Close admits, he doesn’t do glamour shots, and to me, that’s what make these actresses so very glamourous.
