Gwyneth Paltrow announced her separation from Coldplay singer Chris Martin on her GOOP lifestyle site earlier this week. BUT their New Age separation is not a divorce; it’s conscious uncoupling. The term comes from Dr. Habib Sadeghi – Paltrow’s lifestyle guru, and is an unsurprising expression to anyone who has read anything else from Paltrow’s GOOP site, as shocking as the separation itself may be. Here's the post: I’ve previously asserted that Gwyneth Paltrow can be a bit of a wingnut, but I do like to do the research before laying judgment. The basis of conscious uncoupling lays on the presumption that humans aren’t meant to stay married for so long, that four, five, or six decades is just too long to be with only one other person. This is founded on the increase in lifespan over the past century. Some buzzwords associated with conscious uncoupling are “wholeness in separation”, “an expanding family”, “coming together”, and “two people playing teacher”, celebrating the positive results that can come out of divorce rather than the negative. Should we applaud it for being an alternative way to separate? Or call a spade a spade and stop sugar coating divorce. One question: how will they spiritually divide their assets?
