Dentist Kills Famous Lion to 'Stay Active'

July 28, 2015 1 min read

In early July, Dr. Walter J Palmer, an American dentist, allegedly spent $55,000 on a big game permit and travelled to Africa to kill Cecil the Lion.

Now Dr. Palmer is wanted for illegally killing the famous big cat but has gone into hiding to avoid police. Zimbabwean police say, if convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Dr. Palmer claims he hunts “to stay active” and that he has a passion for wildlife. The smile on his face in pics of him posing with his kills says otherwise. Dr. Palmer is no nature lover and has no problem breaking the law.

Back in 2008, he had been fined just under $3000 for lying about the location of where he killed a black bear and for failing to possess a required license.

Dr. Palmer had two hunting colleagues in the Cecil incident, Theo Bronkhorst and Honest Ndlovu who have already been arrested and will appear in court later this week.

It has been reported that the animal was shot by a bow and arrow, and hunted for 40 hours by Dr. Palmer and his team before finally being killed and beheaded.

Dr. Palmer’s hunting group specializes in finding tough targets like polar bears, leopards, rhinos and now… lions.
