Sometimes when we dine out, we know we are making less than perfect diet decisions but do we really know how 'bad' we are being? Below we've listed 5 dishes it is best to avoid if you have any hopes of saving your diet.
Red Lobster's Create Your Own Combination
Seafood is never a bad choice right? Wrong. A little grilled fish with a side of grilled veg is just fine but when you deep fry it, slather it in butter or cream sauce or toasted coconut AND put it all on one plate, you're asking for trouble. This dish at Red Lobster can contain 3,660 calories and 101 grams of fat with a whopping 6,860mg of sodium! When dining out, it is best to skip the deep fried, creamy, buttery numbers!
Uno Pizzeria & Grill's Deep Dish Pizza
Pizza seems like a reasonable choice but not this one. This one over does it on the cheese and just about everything else. It has 2,000 calories and 143 grams of fat (49 of them saturated fat) and 5,420 milligrams of sodium! That's about three days worth of sodium! Best to by-pass anything with this much cheese and go for a salad instead.
Outback Steakhouse Herb Prime Rib
Ordering this meal means you get one pound of meat, a dressed baked potato and a blue cheese wedge salad. This plate contains 2,404 calories, 169 grams of fat and 3,565 milligrams of sodium. This is about the same as ordering three 10-ounce steaks at the same restaurant. In this case, it isn't just the meat, it is all the extras. And watch out for portions, restaurants often serve you way more food than you need. Why not grab a 10 ounce steak with veggies and a side salad?
The Cheesecake Factory Louisiana Chicken Pasta
This dish is bow tie pasta with mushroom, peppers, onions and chicken. Sounds pretty safe but it definitely isn't. The breaded Parmesan crust on the chicken and the butter sauce with heavy cream torpedo the whole deal. It has 2,370 calories and 80 grams of saturated fat. 4 days worth of fat. As yummy as buttery cream sauces are, it is best to not go that route at all. It would take 6 hours of biking to burn off this meal or one like it.
The Cheesecake Factory Warm Apple Pie
If this were straight up apple pie, it would be one thing but it is loaded with ice cream, whipped cream and caramel sauce. Delicious sounding but brutal for the waistline. It has 1,740 calories and 48 grams of fat. Imagine if you ate this after eating the Louisiana Chicken Pasta! As tempting as a dessert may be, you're better off taking a pass.
It can be hard to stay on a diet at the best of times but imagine how much more difficult it becomes to see results when your consuming more than a day's worth of calories, fat and sodium in a single course of a single meal. Think really hard before you order those delightful sounding deep fried, butter soaked, creamy dishes. In the end, they just aren't worth it.
