DIY: Autumn Dinner Party

Autumn is in the air. You can see it in the slow turn of the trees. You can feel it in the brisk, swirling winds. You can hear it in the crisp crunch of dead leaves. The weather is getting colder by the minute, and these may be the last couple weekends to eat outside. Why not make the most of it by hosting an Autumn dinner party? When it comes to being a good dinner host, the beauty is in the details. A nicely set table, cinnamon-infused liquor, hot soup to balance the cold day. Use warmth as your inspiration. Here are some Autumn themed inspiration:     Infused Whiskey When it comes to liquor, nothing keeps you warm like whiskey. Take you're favourite scotch, bourbon, or rye, and infuse it with apple and cinnamon for a uniquely fall twist. The sweetness of the apple makes it a great aperitif.

Butternut Squash Soup Hot soup on a cold day.. Could there be anything more appetizing? Whether it's carrot, red pepper, or pumpkin, stick to fall colours for aesthetic appeal. The great thing about starting with soup is that it's super easy to make, and it calms people's appetite so you don't have to worry about running out of your main. Not to mention that it warms you from the inside out.

Burlap I don't know why - maybe it's the hot coffee connotations - but burlap seems to be iconically Autumn. There are a ton of things you can do with this fabric when it comes to a festive dinner table. A burlap table runner is easy and makes the table look way more put-together than you can take credit for. These burlap cutlery holders and candle sleeves make for a great accent if you have a bit more time and eagerness.

Candles Nothing sets the mood like candles on the dinner table. Choose a colour scheme that works with the rest of the table. Space them evenly throughout the centrepiece to keep a festive party feel as the sun sets. If there's breeze, use lanterns.

Pumpkins Buying fancy place settings can put you back a ton of money at Pottery Barn. You don't need themed salt and pepper shakers and $60 place card holders to have an impressive table. Buy some pumpkins in various sizes and paint them for a sophisticated look.
