Do You REALLY Need To Wash Your Yoga Pants After Every Workout?

I love going to the gym but nothing kills my vibe more than the laundry that goes with it! I mean, everyone is a little lax when it comes to washing their favourite jeans. But workout gear gets sweaty and smelly, fast. So where do our yoga pants fall into place? Do we wash them every day, or is skimping ok? “Bacteria and yeast will rub off on your clothes while you wear them, especially if they’re tight-fitting." explains Dierdre Hooper, M.D., a dermatologist at Audubon Dermatology in New Orleans. This means that no matter how dripping in sweat or relatively dry you are after your exercise, pesky germs will find their way onto your garments. Used yoga mats, gym floors and even airborne bacteria can get trapped in the fibres when you're in such a confined, heavily populated space. (Yuck!) yoga pants washed "Many of those bacteria will still be on those clothes the next day—possibly in higher number if they’ve multiplied, which they can do even when the clothes are dry.” Dierdre continues. So if you throw on your unwashed yoga pants the next day, you're stretching the fabric and inviting harmful germs onto your skin. This can lead to skin irritation and infection, as well as causing a noticeable reek! The bottom line for your workout bottoms is to wash them after every use, and give your jeans a spin in the wash cycle more frequently as well!
