Dried Apple Rings

Great on their own, in baking, or as an addition to oatmeal or granola, I only recently came across this chewy treat, and decided to try to make my own. Although time consuming, I’d say the end result was worth the wait. Ingredients:
  • 4 medium apples
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tsp vanilla (optional)
  • cinnamon (optional)
Directions:
  1. Peel the apples, or leave the skin on, whichever is your preference. Then core and slice the apples into ¼ inch rings
  2. In a large bowl combine the water, lemon juice, and vanilla. Put the apples in the mixture and let sit covered for 5 minutes.
  3. Pat the rings dry with a tablecloth and lay out on a baking sheet, being sure not to overlap the rings. Sprinkle each side with cinnamon and bake at 300F for 40 minutes, flipping at the 20 minute mark. Turn the oven off and let the apple slices dry in the oven for 2-3 hours.
applerings applerings3 I don’t think the type of apple you use is too important, although you will get a much tarter taste with a granny smith than you would with a sweet fuji apple. You can keep yours plain, although cinnamon is a great flavour for this snack, or you can try your own flavouring, maybe a ginger cardamom?
