Facts About Kissing That Are Guaranteed To Gross You Out!

Locking lips, who doesn't love it? But it's not always as romantic and sensual as we think. The Kindergarten concept of 'cooties' isn't too far off when you examine that germ-dance that happens when you partake in a hot make out session. kissing germs bacteria flu season "There’s an invisible factor in human relationships, but it’s not love: it’s germs. The trillions of microbes living in and on our bodies can be the difference between a great date or a noxious nightmare." says microbiologist Jason Tetro. What is really lurking in your lovers mouth? Well, we explore the more disgusting side of making out as flu season approaches. The Cause of Stinky Breath According to a recent study, 7 out of 10 people would break up with their partner due to bad breath. The stench is caused by tiny bacteria that live in your mouth. There are over 600 kinds that can find a home in there and begin eating and pooping, which can cause problems. "When oral bacteria are ejecting waste, it goes straight into your mouth. Some of these waste molecules are quite smelly; they are known as volatile sulfur compounds and are responsible for bad breath." says Jason. Your Mouth Is A Living Ecosystem  And someone can change the balance of that ecosystem after just 10 seconds of kissing. A few seconds of making out can alter your entire bacterial profile while you exchange billions of germs. If you brush after you get hot and heavy, you can erase the changes and rebalance your mouth. But if you go a long time without brushing, the changes can become semi-perminant. The bacteria placed in your mouth can set up shop and form a community in which to multiply. Kissing Makes You High  Studies have shown that kissing can send you into a euphoric state, just like taking illicit substances. When you kiss, your brain releases its feel-good hormone which can make you feel more attracted to your make out partner than you actually are. Your levels of serotonin decrease (this is the hormone that regulates your emotional behaviour) so your emotions can take control over rational thinking. Don't Kiss When You're Sick  It should be common knowledge, but don't be totally gross and spread bacteria all over the place when you're under the weather. Your mouth and other's mouths are ideal environments to grow and multiply germs. "There’ll be time enough when you’ve recovered to make up for lost time.” says Jason.
