Find Out Why Kraft Is Recalling Single Cheese Slices
Kraft has received reports from people who have choked on plastic after a small section of the clear wrapper remained attached to their cheese product.
Apparently the rubbery consistency of cheese singles has the power to disguise the fact that anything is wrong as you place your slice on your sandwich. 36,000 cases of cheese has been pulled from grocery store shelves in America due to this concern. Three people have actually physically choked on the plastic, and 10 others have filed complaints.
The use-by dates of the cheese cases are between December 2015 and January 2016. So if you have one of these packages sitting in your fridge, Kraft has a message for you: "Do not eat it."
"We deeply regret this situation and apologize to any consumers we have disappointed," Kraft stated to the public.
The cheese product is high in saturated fat, and has long been questioned as to whether it is truly a healthy source of calcium and other nutrients. But the company has been working to rid themselves of the stigma associated with this processed cheese. Kraft has tweaked their recipe to remove some of the artificial ingredients which have given singles a bad reputation, which is a positive start.
As for now, take Kraft's warning for any singles with the above stated dates if you're planning on making a grilled cheese in the future.
