Fitness Life Lesson Countdown #10: Be Flexible

Flexibility is one of the most important aspects of your fitness. Without proper stretching, you're going to injure yourself. The more flexible you are, the more resistant to strains, injuries, and sore muscles you will be. You won't tweak your back just getting out of bed after a long night in the wrong position. Make sure to spend at least 10 minutes a day stretching and getting limber. You want to stretch BEFORE you work out, but take a few minutes after you're done lifting to shake out those tired muscles to loosen them up. Don't be so set on ONE routine, ONE time slot, or ONE gym that you never look beyond. Be more flexible in your life, and you'll find that the added variety actually makes your workouts more fun.  Find ways to break out of your little fitness/life box, and try new things--even if it's just once! Who knows, maybe you'll find dancing, martial arts, or Pilates MORE fun than CrossFit, HIIT, or bodybuilding, and they can make a great addition to your workouts!
