Food Villains #25: Instant Biscuits

We've all lusted after the tasty biscuits at Arby's, KFC, Church's Chicken, or Popeyes. A breakfast of fluffy instant biscuits are definitely a treat, but do you have any idea what's in those things?! Not only are these instant biscuits made with all kinds of strange chemicals--many of which you have no idea how to pronounce--but they're often VERY high in trans and saturated fats. You get a MASSIVE dose of white flour, which has been refined and offers almost no nutritional value. It's basically food that goes straight to your blood sugar levels, leaving you suffering from the spikes and drops in your blood glucose.   [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Source:[/caption] A single biscuit contains:
  • 130 calories
  • 2 grams of fat
  • 320 milligrams of sodium
Now think about how many biscuits you'd eat with a meal, and you can see why these instant breads are such a horrible choice for a healthy person. My advice: Skip the bread altogether. (Bread is very low in nutrients and high in both calories and empty carbs. Not worth it!)
