Food Villains #28: SOBE

For some reason, the American public has gotten it in their heads that SOBE is a healthy drink. I wonder where that came from? You'll see SOBE in supermarkets and in Starbucks, and somehow you consider them a healthy choice. Well, perhaps compared to the sodas and soft drinks they are, but not when you compare them to just plain water. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="550"] Source: bevwire.wordpress.com[/caption] The average bottle of SOBE is loaded with:
  • 77 grams of sugar (damn, that’s a lot!)
  • 1 gram of fat (in a juice/water drink?)
  • 310 calories
That means that a single bottle of "healthy" SOBE contains more sugar than your average Snickers or Milky Way bar, not to mention more calories as well. Sure, the drink may taste great, but unfortunately for you, it's higher in sugar than most fruit juices, and you need to drink more of it to be satiated. My choice: Fresh water. (There's no beating a nice cold glass of water to deal with your thirst, and you'll avoid adding more calories to your diet!)
