Food Villains #5: Fish and Chips

This classic British dish is a favorite in restaurants like Long John Silver's and Applebee's, not to mention pretty much every Irish and English pub around the country. It's a meal you can't help but love, but dang does it pack a lot of calories! Not only are you eating deep fried potatoes (delicious, but WAY too much saturated fat), but the fish has been dipped in a high-calorie batter and deep fried as well. It's almost like you're eating trans fats and saturated fats, plus far more calories than you need in a single meal. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="630"] Source:[/caption] For example, the New England Fish and Chips served at Applebee's is loaded with a staggering:
  • 1,930 calories
  • 121 grams of carbs
  • 3,180 mg of sodium (nearly 150% of DV)
  • 138 grams of fat
Way too much of all the bad stuff for a meal that SHOULD be healthy, right?! My advice: Get grilled fish and potatoes. (Nearly as tasty, but WAY lower in calories.)
