Food Villains #6: Appetizers
There's something about sitting down hungry and staring at an appetizer menu that makes you think, "I want ALL OF THEM!"
When you start out your meal with an appetizer, you're adding A LOT of calories to your meal--far more than you'd expect.
For example, there's the Firecracker Stuffed Jalapenos with Chili con Queso served by On the Border (one of my favorite Mexican-style eateries). It comes with:

Truth be told, appetizers tend to be fairly high in calories. Think about it. Buffalo wings and chicken tenders are deep fried, and nachos are deep fried tortilla chips served with beans and cheese. It's just way too many calories for a healthy meal, plus A LOT more sodium and saturated fat than is healthy for you.
My advice: Skip to the entrée. (As tough as it is to turn down an appetizer, it will help you shave off A LOT of calories if you don't have an appetizer.)
