Forget About Kale! Moringa Is The New Superfood You Need To Know About

We love to get ourselves crazy excited about powerful, nutrient-rich superfoods. Can you blame us? When one food item can be worked into just about any meal and give us a significant portion of what our body needs, it is hard not to become obsessed. For some time, kale has been dominating the conversation, but we may have just found something even better. It is called moringa and comes with health benefits almost too numerous to count. Here's what you need to know: moringa-oleifera-leaves-and-pods

What is moringa?

Moringa oleifera is a tree native to India and the Himalayas, now also cultivated in South America and Africa. Although it may be new to us, it has been an important food staple for centuries.

What's so great about moringa?

Moringa is an incredibly nutritious and delicious plant. The pods taste like runner beans, the leaves are like spinach, the seeds are like peanuts and the root is akin to horseradish. Moringa contains over 90 nutrients including protein, fiber, calcium, potassium, iron, vitamin C and vitamin A. Moringa may completely change the way you do breakfast! The leaves contain 7 times the vitamin C found in an orange and 4 times the calcium of a glass of milk. On top of that, it contains 46 different antioxidants. Seriously! Moringa grows in climates where plants don't always grow. It grows quickly and has the ability to purify water.

But how do you eat it?

Available in supplement form, you can have a little every day. It makes a great addition to your green smoothies. Of course, if you live in a country where it is grown, you can add some fresh leaves (and pods and seeds and roots) to your meal!
