Free Your Nipples With The "Ta-Ta Top"

July 03, 2014 2 min read

In celebration of the #freethenipple movement, the TaTa top-a bikini top featuring a screen print of realistic looking nipples-was born. The owners and creators, Robyn Graves and Michelle Lytle, developed the top with the main goal being to help de-sexualize the female nipple. They were inspired by the Free The Nipple movement launched by filmmaker Lina Esco and made popular by Bruce Willis' daughter Scout. c7e6de87160f81c7_mornign-exercise.preview   The idea for women to not be ashamed of their own bodies and to embrace their beauty. "Why can't girls be topless? If you really think about it, what's the difference between a man's nipples and a woman's? Is it really just the extra breast tissue? Is it the fact that women's nipples are paired with a vagina? What is it that is so horrible that caused SUCH hysteria?" the makers of the TaTa top wrote on their website. "Honestly...stop and think for a few moments," the article continues. "Remove the cultural normalcies that have been ingrained in you and look at this situation as if you were explaining it to an alien who newly arrived on Earth. Explain why women have to cover up their chests, but not men. What reason would you give? "The TaTa Top is far more than nipples on a bikini top. As a brand we work to promote questioning the social norm and digging deeper when it comes to society's expectations." Well, when they say it like that, they kinda have a point. It is not about the nipple itself-it is the meaning behind it. Why are women's nipples so sexualized as opposed to a man's nipple? Women's breasts were created to feed babies and ended up being for sexual gratification as well, yes, but what makes having a female's breast exposed so "taboo"  and "shocking?" I am still amazed at the negative attention and flack that breastfeeding mothers get these days for choosing to feed their babies in public. You can purchase the TaTa Top on their website. Each top costs $28, with $5 of each sale put towards a breast cancer research foundation.
