Does green coffee bean extract really work?
I have seen so much on Facebook about the miracle weight loss pill “green coffee bean extract,” it seems that every day I see another ad for this weight loss pill and I have to ask…does it really work?
Have you seen those ads on Facebook that show Dr. Oz endorsing this miracle weight loss pill? It seems too good to be true so I did some research and found out some interesting things about green coffee bean extract.
First of all, what is green coffee bean extract?
Green coffee beans are coffee beans that haven’t been roasted yet. These beans have a higher rate of chlorgenic acid, which has many health benefits. This chemical helps with heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and weight loss.
I found an informative video on YouTube where a licensed dietician, Maria Clifford tells us that green coffee bean extract is a great way to lose weight and that she has been referring it to her clients for over 5 years. She also told us that you have to make sure that you are buying the quality green coffee bean extract because the market is flooded with cheap imitations made in china. She gave us four steps to make sure you are buying the quality supplements and here they are…
1. The supplement must be made in the US or Europe
2. If it has ephedrine in it DON’T buy it, it is low quality
3. Make sure the supplement is verified, that is a guarantee it’s high quality.
4. The legit green coffee bean extract supplements run from $45-50, so the $20 ones are no good, don’t waste your money on an imposter, save for the quality product.
Now that you know how to buy the real supplement, the bigger question at hand should you be buying it?
In a study done by chemistry professor, Dr. Joseph Vinson, at the University of Scranton, published in Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome Obesity Journal. Researchers studied the effects of green coffee bean extract on 16 overweight participants over the course of 22 weeks.
Participants were given different doses of green coffee bean extract (1050mg or 700mg) or they were given a placebo for a 6 week period. Then for the following 2 weeks they weren’t given anything to flush out their system.
After that 2 week period the next 6 weeks they were given the green bean coffee extract again or a placebo, the same doses as listed earlier. They continued to flush out the system for 2 weeks after every 6 week period. Researchers measured body mass index, body weight, body fat percentage, heart rate and blood pressure.
The results showed that participants lost an average of 17 lbs and 16% of their body fat. Furthermore, 6 out of the 16 participants reached a healthy body mass index.
These results are pretty incredible because in this study the participants didn’t change their diets at all the only thing they did different was take green coffee bean extract supplements daily.
I still think the healthiest way to lose weight is to eat healthy and exercise, but if someone needs a jumpstart I guess it is safe to try green coffee bean extract, just make sure you are buying the best/real supplements and not some cheap imitation.
