We all have our vices on what we crave and have a uncontrollable urge for. Today’s discussion is around getting an urge and craving for something salty and crunch. I can definitely say that this is the category of cravings I fall into. I could dump tablespoons of seasoning salt on everything. When presented with a bag of Stacey’s pita chips I cannot stop until the bag is done (it’s like an out of body experience I swear). So best thing to do is remove all the of the trigger from the house and replace with some healthy alternatives to squash the cravings, here:
- Kale chips – quick little recipe here: 1 bunch of kale spread on a pan – sprinkle the juice from 1 lime, ½ tbsp. coconut oil and some chilli flakes on to them. Bake them on low in your oven until they go crispy – nom nom
- Air popped popcorn (no toppings) – one cup of this has about 30 calories, is whole grain, is high in fiber and quite filling/satisfying
- Homemade trail mix – while nuts are high in calories, they are great for salt cravings (so just ensure you can portion control). Throw some pistachios, almonds and sunflower seeds together and munch on that when you feel that craving coming.
- Edamame – great for fiber and protein. Sprinkle a TINY bit of sea salt on them and you will love this snack.
