Holy Sh*t, she has cellulite too: Victoria's Secret Model Karolina Kurkova

July 21, 2013 1 min read

Unfiltered images of beauty are rare. Advertisers want us to compare ourselves against heavily retouched images so that we will by the products that they claim will get us closer to the forever unattainable computer generated models that sell us everything from clothes to cars. Most of us are media literate enough to know that the glossy magazine pictures aren't real - but advertising largely works because we still make the comparison between how we look and feel and how we are told we should look and feel in advertisements. No matter how aware we are of photoshop and retouching, these processes are largely hidden from us, and we have been conditioned to ignore these filters and buy whatever they are selling us. When images surface that haven't been processed they can temporarily disrupt the media's manipulation of our reality in a way that reminds us we are being voluntarily fooled. When people react with statements like "holy shit she has cellulite too" it's not a condemnation - it's a realization that even those that we hold to be "super" models are in fact flawed. Flaws make us human, they allow us to relate to each other, and they are the source of what makes us unique and individually beautiful - all of which gets filled in and glossed over by the air brush. If processed food is bad for us, what about our diet of processed images? What impact do they have on our self-esteem and self-worth? Why do we so willingly consume it? 20130720-194809.jpg   Do you follow us on Instagram? [caption id="attachment_103752" align="alignnone" width="100"]snapchat code @BodyRockTV[/caption]
