'Horrifying' Facebook Page Digitally Slenderizes Images Of Plus-Sized Celebs
Men and women alike have been outraged by what has been described as a horrifying Facebook page. Project Harpoon is the name, and using Photoshop to slim down plus-sized models is it's aim.
Hashtags such as #SkinnyAcceptance and #THINNERBEAUTY appear on the page among photos of celebrities like Melissa McCarthy and Ashley Graham in an attempt to 'help' overweight women. Not only does the page display these images without the permission of the celebs, it completely restructures their bodies and faces to create what the page feels is an appropriate, healthy look.
"Meghan Trainor might be a lot more popular if she was what the industry wanted her to be!" wrote the page creator about the plus-sized pop singer.
The page gained over 6,000 followers, the majority being either trollers who enjoy watching people get offended by this type of material, or the offended speaking out.
"This is damn near the most offensive thing I've ever seen." one commenter wrote beneath a set of pictures.
The page has made many defensive statuses about its content and claims what it is doing is justifying freedom of speech. It seems to call anyone who disagrees with it's views, 'skinny haters'. It encourages its followers to like and share the posts promoting the slenderizing of these well known women.
We want to hear from you! Sound off in the comments what your thoughts are on this page, and the message it's sending!
