How Are You Holding Yourself Accountable?
I was at the salon the other day chatting with my stylist and one of her co-workers about accountability in our workouts. We were talking about working out at the gym verses hitting it hard at home. I have always enjoyed working out at home. I like that I don't have to drive to get there and I can shower in my own shower. It is one of the reasons Body Rock is so enjoyable for me.
At the time, I still wore trainers and I mentioned to the gals that always left them out. That way if I saw them and knew that I hadn't put them on that day then it was time to start jumping. That was my way of holding myself accountable to my workout goals. One of the ladies said that would never work for her. She had to have a destination (like the gym), or another person (like a workout buddy) to motivate her. It never crossed my mind that my shoe motivation would not work for someone else.
What shapes our motivations? Why do some people need outside sources of motivation and others do not? I believe that it ties in with accountability.
I am a very independent person and I have always held myself accountable for any of my actions, including my workouts. But what about people who are not inwardly accountable? Who or what do you look to for accountability? A friend, a sibling, a significant other, a calendar, an app? Do apps that post your workouts to Facebook and Twitter help?
While I tend to be self-motivated, I do find that pictures are very motivating for me. I found Body Rock through Pinterest after clicking a picture of Lisa-Marie. Her body is just so amazing! Lisa is a boost to my existing motivation and she inspires me everyday.
So fellow Body Rockers, what motivates you? Do you have your own internal drive or do you look outside your self for motivation?
