By simply getting inked, 20-year-old Bekah Miles has done wonders for the mental health community. Bekah has struggled with depression throughout her life, and decided to seek help after listening to her professor at George Fox University give a speech about mental health. Bekah made the brave decision to reach out to her prof. "Hearing her words made me realize that even though it can seem like you are the happiest, most intelligent, or down-to-earth human being, everyone has struggles. I sought her out not long after. She helped me find the right help that I needed." Bekah explains. After treatment, Bekah's relationship with depression was far from over. But now seeing the disorder from a new perspective, she decided to get an ingenious tattoo which illustrates depression poignantly. "I got this tattoo. I feel that my leg was the best place for the meaning behind it. When everyone else sees it, they see “I’m fine,” but from my viewpoint, it reads “save me.” To me, it means that others see this person that seems okay, but, in reality, is not okay at all. It reminds me that people who may appear happy, may be at battle with themselves." Bekah posted on her Facebook page. The post has received nearly 300,000 likes and is growing. While the young student never thought her message would reach so many people, she is completely overjoyed. "This is exactly what I wanted--to reach out to people and let them know that they are not alone." she states. Have you ever battled with mental illness? Share your stories with us!
