Jillian Michaels Calls "Butt Selfies" Softcore Porn
Anyone who has followed the career of Jillian Michaels knows that she isn't afraid to show off her physique or speak her mind. It is not difficult to find images of her in tight fitting clothing. As someone who works to motivate and train other people, allowing said people to see your shape is important. But, Michaels is not impressed by some recent fitness selfie trends and expresses her thoughts in the January 2016 cover story for Women's Health Magazine.
She says, “I’m not into fitness professionals who post selfies that show off their butts or other body parts. Come on, that’s not fitness—it’s softcore porn."
Michaels built her name. She built her career from the ground up and is protective of it. When your sole goal is to motivate people to be the best they can be, you don't want to see that cheapened. "We’ve come so far, and this is where you’re taking the movement? Put your clothes on," she says. "I get it—you love your body and bravo that—but it’s not fitness. Fitness to me is about empowering people. It’s about redefining self-image.”
She's not entirely wrong, either. While looking better is often a goal people attach to their fitness plan, it cannot be the only reason. If your fitness goals only about your appearance, you are doomed to fail. No matter what our society tells us, you are not your body. If you are only able to be inspired by looking at images and saying "I want to look like that," you'll likely never be happy.

Michaels is set to show the world what her life is really like with the new E! series, Just Jillian. This show will detail her life as mother, wife and business owner. "I think people will really get to know me as a person," she says. "I have my crazy moments, of course, but I’m human just like everybody else. I love my kids, I make mistakes, I have tons of flaws. I’m kind of like Larry David, like anything ridiculous, absurd, and terrible that can happen to somebody sort of happens to me." Perhaps it is there, that she has found her success. We know she has a killer body, but we don't know her for her body. We know her as a person.
Michaels' life is beyond fabulous at the moment. She is super busy and follows a strict routine that involves very little downtime but she understands the nature of these moments. "You kind of make hay while the sun is shining, and right now the sun is shining," she says. "I got two television shows, I’m on the cover of Women’s Health, all my books are best sellers. I don’t want to sound like an asshole, but this is the reality of my life and I’m only going to have this moment once and I need to capitalize on it."
Are you someone inspired by Jillian Michaels? Do you think she's right about the fitness selfie trends being damaging to the industry?
