Kate Winslet Refuses to Allow Her Children to Use This...

Social media is seen by many as a means to promote oneself. How many followers do you have? How many likes do you get? It's an incredibly popular tool that has undoubtedly taken over our society in a variety of ways. But one celebrity just isn't having it. Actress Kate Winslet tells the Sunday Times that social media actually makes her "blood boil" and does not want her children, Mia, 14, Joe, 11, and Bear, 22 months, to be consumed by it. "It has a huge impact on young women's self-esteem, because all they ever do is design themselves for people to like them. And what comes along with that? Eating disorders," she says. "And that makes my blood boil. And is the reason we don't have social media in our house."   The Steve Jobs star even says that she and husband Ned Rocknroll sleep sans cellphones nearby, as they have agreed to charge them on another level in their house before they go to sleep in order to keep addictiveness of this technology at bay.   And when it comes to parenting, she takes a similar and perhaps more drastic approach. "Parents are losing control. You have to be a hands-on parent. It's as simple as that,"  she says.   Kate's three children come from three different men. Mia's father is director Jim Threapleton, Joe's father is Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes, and Bear's father is Rocknroll. Of how that plays out, she says to People that there is nothing strange or difficult about it. "They're absolutely adorable together. They're very helpful, I must say. I really love hanging out with my kids. They're terrific people. They're kind of happy in who they are, too, and that's all you can really hope for them - that they love being themselves."
