Titanic star, Kate Winslet made an appearance on Running Wild with Bear Grylls this past Monday, showing off her fearlessness and sharing her personal views on body image and self-worth.
“When I grew up, I never heard positive reinforcement about body image from any female in my life. I only ever heard negatives,” the actress said. “That’s very damaging, because then you’re programmed as a young woman to immediately scrutinize yourself and how you look.”
Thanks to this, Winslet recognizes the importance of positive reinforcement when it comes to her 14 year old daughter, Mia.
“I stand in front of the mirror and say to Mia, ‘We are so lucky that we’ve got a shape. We’re so lucky we’re curvy. We’re so lucky we’ve got good bums,’” Winslet said. “And she’ll say, ‘Mommy, I know, thank God.’ And so I do think maybe it’s really working, that thing that I’ve been doing.”
Winslets reminds us that we should accept and embrace our “flaws”, and celebrate what we can accomplish, rather than waste our time worrying over things we can’t control.
It’s no shock to see this down-to-earth beauty advocating for positive self-esteem. She’s definitely a role model, and we can’t help but love her!
“Happiness isn’t a search for facial or physical perfection,” Winslet continued. “It comes from inside.”
