Kill it With Cardio #3: Swimming

I'm a huge fan of swimming, as it's both EXTREMELY exhausting and a great full body workout. If you're serious about hitting that cardio hard, it's worth considering. The beauty of swimming is that it's pretty much ALL focused on cardio. You're exhaling while under water and inhaling when you raise your head, so it forces you to concentrate on your breathing pattern. It's actually easier to work your lungs and heart thanks to the fact that you are FORCED to breathe. • Just swimming laps at a slow pace will burn between 400 and 650 calories per hour.
  • Picking up the pace to a fast stroke will burn between 590 and 900 calories per hour.
  • Even just treading water will burn between 250 and 400 calories per hour.
The beauty of swimming is that it's an EPIC full body workout, and it's very easy on your joints. It's a low-impact cardio workout that anyone can do--provided they have access to a pool!
