Kill it With Cardio #8: Running/Jogging

No list of cardio exercises would be complete with the old reliable: running. Whether you run on the treadmill, jog in the park, or take to the trails and hills around your city, there are few more reliable forms of cardio exercise than running. Those who can't run can benefit from the slower pace of jogging. [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Source:[/caption] Running can burn quite a few calories:
  • Running a 12-minute mile (5 MPH) will burn between 450 and 750 calories per hour
  • Running a 10-minute mile (6 MPH) will burn between 600 and 930 calories per hour
  • Running an 8-minute mile (7.5 MPH) will burn up to 1,150 calories per hour
As you can see, running is definitely the way to burn a lot of calories, but even jogging gets the job done! You can burn about 500 calories in an hour of jogging. Want to kick it up a notch? Find a river or stream and try some "water jogging". It's exactly what it sounds like, and you can burn as many as 750 calories in an hour!
