Kylie Jenner Gets Called Out For Cultural Appropriation
Amandla Stenberg wasn't afraid to call out Kylie Jenner on Instagram.
Recently, Jenner posted an image of herself in cornrows and captioned it "I woke up like disss."
One of the thousands of comments on the photo was from Stenberg who said, "When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter." Not to be outdone, Jenner fired back with "Mad if I don't, mad if I do...Go hang w Jaden or something."
I'm not entirely sure how that comeback serves as an insult but whatever, it is clear that Jenner doesn't get Stenberg's point.
Stenberg wasn't finished with the Jenner comment. Later, she posted a screen shot of something she wrote about the dangerous and harmful stereotypes surrounding black women's sexuality and femininity. She wrote:
This isn't the first time Stenberg has stood up and spoken about the harms of cultural appropriation and unfortunately, it probably won't be the last time she has to do it either.
I think Kylie crossed the line, how about you? Tell us your thoughts in a comment.
