Scientists have finally discovered that the best way to lose weight is to eliminate all animal products and follow a vegan diet. A study has shown people on vegetarian diets, and especially those on a vegan diet, see better results than those following other weight-loss plans. So, why is this? For one, vegetarian and vegan diets are most definitely lower in calories than a regular diet since most meats are made up of fat. Fat yields 9 calories per gram when compared to protein and carbs, both yielding only 4 grams each. The calories add up and you only get by with eating a small amount-which isn't very filling. Also, wholegrains and most veggies are low on the Glycemic Index chart, meaning that they keep you fuller long and your body digests the sugars slower than higher GI foods, keeping your blood sugar levels from spiking. Wholegrains also contain fiber which helps keep you feeling fuller instead of mindless snacking throughout your day. Maybe Meatless Mondays are a good idea after all! Are you vegan? Have you noticed a difference in your weight since switching over?
