At 26, Martyn Fox had been afraid to leave the UK where he had resided for 7 years. He had always wanted to travel, but being nearly 400 pounds limited him. He couldn't handle the embarrassment of needing two plane seats, and became very depressed.
"I was secluding myself, not going out much and struggled with confidence. I yo-yo dieted because I have always had a really bad relationship with food and would use it as a reward and for comfort." explains Martyn.
Fed up with his lack of mobility, Martyn made a decision that would change his life. He joined a local gym and began to heal his toxic relationship with food. He started eating more fruits and vegetables and cut off his potato chip addiction. Working out three times a week started improving his overall health, and the weight began melting off.
"Before, I was constantly out of breath. I was always hot and sweaty and constantly felt sluggish." Martyn says. "I feel like a different person. It's even strange looking in the mirror. Each time I see friends they don't recognize me."
168 pounds lighter, Martyn was finally able to see the world! He booked trips to Barbados, Mexico and Canada. He even channelled his love of travel into a new job working for a travel agency.
Martyn says that learning to cook for himself was a vital part of losing weight. Instead of relying on prepackaged, processed meals or fast food, he prepares everything himself.
