My Personal Rules: #3 Drink WATER
At the very beginning...when I had no idea what I was doing, I took the first suggestion that was given to me. I was seventeen and the heaviest I'd ever been, when a personal trainer told me to drink nothing but water.
My liquid of choice at that point was milk and diet pepsi. I probably went through five cans a day of soda and a glass or two of milk...with my cookies and waffles, of course.
So because I had no idea where to begin, I had no other option but to latch onto his first piece of advice.
He said, "Give it one month without anything but water and see what happens."
Well, I did and here I am. If you have followed my blog you must already know this, because I talk about it a lot. This was a monumental moment in my change towards a healthy life. For whatever reason, that ONE suggestion made things stick. The flip was switched. The bell was wrung. The axe was thrown.
The first week was hell. ABSOLUTE HELL. I would stand in front of the refrigerator with my hands sweating trying to will away my addiction to diet pepsi. It was like heroine. I became crazy for it. In fact, I think the only thing that kept me resisting the temptation was to literally sit on my hands.

This was the day when I started seeing the trainer my senior year in high school. My mom took it the moment I got home. The first day of JUST WATER. What. Had. I. Done.[/caption]
I couldn't believe that it was like going through withdrawals. Headaches, irritability, and just pure anxiousness.
The second week was a little better and by the end of the month, I was only drinking water and I had dropped a couple of pounds. Not only that, but something besides weight was different. My skin was different, my energy was different...my mindset was different. I had done a month, so why not just go another.
It was the breakthrough I needed to show myself that I could actually stick with something. I could actually say no to something.
I am now over twelve years free of anything but water and tea.
Yes, I added tea, but I Never get it sweetened. If I don't have honey or stevia than it is perfectly fine plain!
I still look back on that one decision and can't believe where it led me. Are you kidding? I'm a person involved with fitness...you know, the one who knows how to help people reach their goals?
It started with water. For one month I lived, breathed, swallowed, and although I couldn't walk on water...it was secretly taking over my life.
My dad, who owned a business that built pumps for domestic and irrigation wells, once said, when asked why he loved his job so much, "There's just nothing like watching that water come out of that well...it's beautiful." He truly believed water was the source of life. It is.

My father...believed in water as one of the most beautiful and important parts of our health.[/caption]
None of us can live without water.
Try it...go one month having nothing to drink but water. Replenish your body with the greatest natural resource.
It may change your life.
XO,
Tessa
