Why You Need More Chocolate in Your Life Part 1: More Antioxidants
This is a new series that will look at reasons why you should eat more chocolate--though who needs an excuse, right?
First up, one of the things that makes chocolate such a healthy treat: antioxidants!
It turns out that dark chocolate contains more antioxidants than most foods. These antioxidants are effective at preventing free radical damage in the body, reducing your risk of a wide range of health disorders.

(Quick Primer: Free radicals are unpaired molecules, electrons, and ions that can cause damage to your body at a cellular level. They have been linked to disorders like Alzheimer's, cancer, and heart disease.)
Chocolate is loaded with polyphenols, antioxidants that can reduce the oxidative damage caused by free radicals. By increasing the antioxidant content of your body, you can protect yourself from a wide range of health problems--including some pretty serious doozies! You'll make your body more resistant to free radical damage with just a few bites of goodness every day.
Bonus: Look for chocolate-covered blueberries for an antioxidant power punch.
