The virus can lay dormant in your system for years before presenting itself in a deadly way. Untreated cases of HPV can result in cervical cancer, with 70% of all cervical cancers being linked to the virus. This type of cancer is one of the number one killers for women, and can be very aggressive. This is why HPV is especially dangerous for women. Genital warts, throat cancer and vaginal cancer can also occur in women with HPV. Getting vaccinated against HPV is the most effective course of action for women.
