This video is by no means new, the newscast originally airing in October 2012, but it’s new to me, and I think it has an important message. Jennifer Livingston, news anchor for CBS WKBT responded to a viewer’s email calling her out for being an overweight public figure. BOOM. That guy just got SLAPPED DOWN. In case you skipped watching the video, or just want another “Amen sister!” moment, here’s how Livingston ends her broadcast: “the cruel words of one are nothing compared to the shouts of many.” Not only did she completely shut this guy down, and rise above his disparaging comments, but she actually used the opportunity to promote an important issue: bullying. It’s true, bullying has become easier and more rampant now that you can taunt someone from afar, sending a negative message from the safety of your home computer. So many kids struggle with their weight, and although promoting a healthy lifestyle is important, it’s just as important to promote self-acceptance. As Livingston says, “I am much more than a number on a scale” – and so should everybody else be.
