Nicki Minaj Hints That Taylor Swift Got The MVA Nomination Because Of Her "Slim Body Type"
Well, pop music has exploded with appears to be another cat fight. Sort of.
Twitter was set ablaze by some pretty scathing comments from Nicki Minaj.
It is clear Minaj isn't happy with being left out of the Video Of The Year Nominations at the MVAs. Have a look:
Wow. She also tweeted, "When the ‘other’ girls drop a video that breaks records and impacts culture, they get that nomination."
Shocked by the slam, Swift responded:
Minaj tweeted back that she was confused as to why Swift tweeted her comments had been clear:
Here's the thing, Beyoncé was nominated in the category so her argument that you will get the nom if you are skinny and white seem to be invalid. It feels a little like fit shaming.
But having said that, the music industry has not been a friend to black artists over the years. White artists have been taking credit and getting rich on the backs of black artists for pretty much all of history. Our society and our culture is not friendly to women who are not thin and less friendly to those who are not white and not thin but I don't think that's what is happening here. To me, this reads as sour grapes.
Is it not just possible that Taylor Swift just had a better video? Minaj was nominated in three other categories. It isn't like her efforts haven't been noticed.
What do you guys think? Is Nicki Minaj right? Is this about race and body type or was her video just simply not good enough?
