One Man Just Broke the World Record & Ran Around the Globe In 621 Days
We know how exhausting even a 12min HIIT workout can be - imagine running the equivalent of a marathon every day for more than two years...
That's what 35 year old Kevin Carr just did.
Carr just set a world record after completing his run around the world, breaking the previous record by one day. Carr covered 16,300 miles in 621 days - an average of more than 26 miles PER DAY! He dropped a whopping 42 pounds and sadly said goodbye to 16 pairs of running shoes. Carr is now the youngest person to run around the world. Even crazier? Carr is the first runner to circumnavigate the globe without support. He traveled alone and carried of all his own equipment (this includes food, water, and camping supplies that weighed over 100 pounds)
Over the course of Carr's journey, he ran through 26 countries, pushing through conditions like extreme flooding as well temperatures ranging between -30 and 55 degrees celsius. He dealt with the flu, severe heatstroke, a quad injury oh - and pursuit by both a black bear and a pack of wild dogs. Did we mention he got hit by a car - twice? Regardless, Carr stayed strong, making up time he lost by averaging 45 miles a day for the last month of his trek.
As if this physical achievement wasn't awe-inspiring enough - Carr's motivation to begin the journey really sets him apart: Carr, who has previously suffered from depression, decided to attempt this feat to raise money for mental health charity SANE.
Carr said:
"I aimed to provide a very real demonstration that an 'ill mind' is in no way a 'weak mind' and that there is no shame in mental illness and it needn't hold you back"
Congrats to Kevin from all of us at Bodyrock! You are truly an inspiration (and now we really have no excuse when it comes time to do a 12 min HIIT workout...ever...)
