Over Two-Thirds Of The World's Population Has This STD

The World Health Organization has been on quite a roll. As if it wasn't bad enough to learn that we can no longer truly enjoy bacon. And now we find out that two-thirds of the global population under 50 has this STD. The WHO revealed that over 3.7 billion people have herpes simplex virus type 1. This type of herpes usually manifests itself in the form of cold sores. The majority of people who have HSV-1 contracted it during their childhood. HSV-1 is not the same as the HSV-2 type of virus that causes genital infections. Although not usually sexually transmitted, it is worth noting that HSV-1 has been causing an increase in genital infections in wealthy parts of the world. In these areas, advances in hygiene practices have made it less likely for people to contract HVS-1 in childhood, thereby increasing their chances of catching it when engaging in oral sex later in life. herpes The WHO also revealed that 417 million people between the ages of 15 and 49 have HSV-2. This is the type of virus that is most commonly sexually transmitted. There is no cure for either type of herpes and many carriers show no symptoms at all. Nathalie Broutet, a WHO medical officer, said trials are currently underway to test the effectiveness of therapeutic and preventative vaccines. Another WHO medical officer, Sami Gottlieb said, "We really need to accelerate the development of vaccines against herpes simplex virus, and if a vaccine designed to prevent HSV-2 infection also prevented HSV-1, it would have far reaching benefits." There is a previously tested vaccine that showed some positive results in combating HSV-1, says Gottlieb. She said the trials were "promising" and claimed them as proof that it is not impossible to develop a herpes vaccine. What do you think of this story? Are you shocked by the high numbers? Do you think they will ever find a vaccine? Source: Elite Daily Do you follow us on Instagram? [caption id="attachment_115388" align="alignnone" width="100"]snapchat code @BodyRockTV[/caption]
